From its foundation in the 19th Century, Haileybury has grown, adapted and flourished. Through the years, the School has achieved a rare balance between an education based on the best of traditional values and a dynamic, progressive outlook.
Haileybury is a co-educational boarding school set in a 500-acre site in rural Hertfordshire, 20 miles north of London and 30 miles south of Cambridge. Our spacious grounds offer unsurpassed facilities, including an impressive indoor swimming pool, excellent pupil accommodation and a state-of-the-art technology centre.
A co-educational school
We believe that both boys and girls make a distinctive and valuable contribution to the academic and community life of the School. Respect for all, service to others and individually focused pastoral care are most important. Discipline is achieved through leadership by example, as well as through effective, consistent teaching.
Academic life
Academic results are important at Haileybury, and our achievements are growing year by year, as demonstrated by our excellent A-level and International Baccalaureate results. An English boarding school with an international outlook, our curriculum offers the option of A-level examinations or the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme in the sixth form.
The International Baccalaureate is a coherent post-16 qualification that promotes intellectual rigour and high academic standards. It also unites students across the globe in a shared academic experience, recognising involvement in many activities like debating, drama, music and sport.
The arts, sport and extracurricular activities
Haileybury is well known for its outstanding arts programme and sporting activities. Music has reached exceptional standards in the last few years, catering for the most talented scholar as well as the beginner. We proudly promote the Haileybury Chamber Choir who achieved the highly prestigious award of BBC Songs of Praise Senior School Choir of the Year 2005.With high-quality drama and art too, Haileybury offers a programme that encourages pupils to develop a life long love of the arts. Pupils are able to take advantage of our excellent sporting facilities, and we boast international, national and local success, as well as catering for the social sportsman or woman.
Haileybury is recognised as one of the UK’s leading schools in the Model United Nations, while our Combined Cadet Force, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, community service and other extracurricular programmes allow scope for collaboration and integration among pupils, building self-esteem.
It is this synthesis of old and new that makes
Haileybury not just a great school, but a great place
