The School
Friends’ is a co-educational boarding and day school founded in 1702 by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). Situated in a popular market town, we have good rail and road connections to London, Cambridge and London/Heathrow and London/Stansted airports.
A sense of community
We are a small, family-orientated school with a strong and supportive community. Our pastoral care is excellent and our pupils receive high levels of personal attention. We focus on academic achievement within a framework of all-round development, offering a wide range of cultural, creative and physical activities. True to our Quaker heritage, we seek ‘that of God’ in everyone, creating an environment where individuality is cherished and pupils and staff show respect for the dignity of others.
Academic strengths
Friends’ is one of the top schools in the country to deliver a ‘value-added’ education, improving achievement between age 11 and GCSE. We achieve this through small teaching groups with excellent, committed staff who regularly review your child’s progress. We are known for our strong creative tradition in the performing arts. The School also offers learning support to small numbers of children with specific learning difficulties and is a member of the National Association for Gifted Children. We offer tuition for Cambridge ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) examinations. Academic, art, music and sport scholarships are offered at ages 11, 13 and at Sixth Form.
Boarding
Boarders thrive in our friendly family community, with a choice of full, weekly or part-time boarding. Our entertaining weekend activity programme includes bowling, cinema visits, picnics, trips to foreign cities and ‘Lazy Sundays’. Boarders are encouraged to take increasing amounts of responsibility within the boarding houses.
Sixth Form
Our Sixth Formers choose from 19 subjects at AS/A-level and build on their independent learning skills, in preparation for university. Our Sixth- Form Study Centre is separate, yet within the heart of the School. Team building exercises, cultural visits; seminars and mock interviews are part of the extended curriculum.
People actually tried to see the good in me and do
What was best for me? I couldn’t ask for anything
More than that.
