Edgehill College is a Methodist co-educational day and boarding school situated on the outskirts of the historic town of Bideford. It is set in beautiful grounds of over 50 acres, with excellent facilities and surrounded by Devon’s beautiful rolling countryside, glorious coastline, sandy beaches and moors. Founded in 1884, it is one of a group of schools owned by the Methodist Church and run by the Board of Management for Methodist Colleges and Schools. The school has its own chaplain.
The College comprises the Senior School, which accepts girls and boys between the ages of 11 and 18 years as full boarders, weekly boarders or day pupils; the Preparatory School, which accepts day pupils only; the Kindergarten which takes children from three years of age; and the Nursery, which takes babies from 12 weeks.
Academic studies
The school has a current roll of 280 students. Class sizes are small and are usually around 15 pupils. As a small school, we are able to develop the individual: the personal care we give to pupils is very much an integral part of our ethos. We offer a broad range of subjects at both GCSE and Alevel. To complement their academic studies, students are encouraged to develop their leisure interests in many areas including sport, music, drama and art.
Facilities
The campus buildings are well equipped and include four spacious science laboratories, a modern languages laboratory, a computer centre, art & design and technology buildings and a sixth-form study centre. There are two large music rooms as well as numerous practising rooms. Sports facilities are extensive and include a gymnasium, netball and tennis courts, a large sports hall, an all-weather pitch, a grass running track and pitches for cricket, hockey, soccer and rugby. For drama, there is the drama studio, the main school hall with stage, in addition to our modern, state-of-the-art 459-seat theatre.
Boarding
The Boarding Houses are friendly and homely with bright, airy and comfortable accommodation. Weekend events and outings are arranged including programmed activities at a nearby activity centre. Parents can feel secure in the knowledge that their children are in a safe and sympathetic environment. We aim to provide a ‘home from home’ situation which matches the needs of our pupils.
