Cambridge Arts & Sciences
Founded in 1985, Cambridge Arts & Sciences is an independent coeducational sixth-form college in the centre of Cambridge. The college provides pre-university courses for students aged 15–19 in GCSE, A-level, and Oxford and Cambridge University entrance examinations. Academic achievement is emphasised and most students gain places at major universities.

The college occupies a self-contained campus in the centre of Cambridge. With a maximum 250 places, it is a close-knit community offering students an immediate sense of belonging – enhanced by the city’s academic tradition and lively student society. College facilities include art and photographic studios, film and video suites, music rooms, three science laboratories and a dedicated computer suite. Residential students are housed in college halls of residence or in homestay accommodation.

Tuition is given in small groups of seven or fewer, or on a one-to one basis, keeping classes intensive, dynamic and stimulating. The curriculum covers a wide range of subjects and is taught within a flexible framework which can accommodate any first choice of subjects offered. Teaching is structured around each student’s admission to the college. A personal study plan is drawn up and consistently reviewed.

Cambridge School of Visual & Performing Arts Formerly Cambridge School of Art & Design, it has Foundation courses in art and design, drama, and music, from one term to two years. The Drama Foundation is offered in association with The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Admission for art and design is by portfolio, assessment and interview. Portfolios may include individual drawing and imaginative pieces, photographs of large 3D work, and written projects. Drama and music admission is by audition and interview. Established in 1985,the School offers a range of studio and rehearsal rooms and a staff of more than 20 professional commercial artists, theatre practitioners and music tutors, who bring an important real-world dimension to teaching. Since 1994,100 per cent of art applicants have gained degree course places.

Courses provide a transition between A-levels and degree-level study, and offer the necessary qualification. Students develop skills and portfolio work for university, art college, conservatoire or drama school entry. Working across different disciplines is encouraged. During the course, students visit art galleries and museums, and attend theatre performances and concerts in Cambridge and elsewhere in the UK.

Academic achievement is emphasised, with most
students gaining places at major universities.
