The School and its ethos
Founded in 1928, Bryanston is a co-educational HMC boarding school for 13–18-year-olds, situated in a magnificent 400-acre estate in North Dorset.
Bryanston has high academic standards, good examination results and levels of achievement that reflect considerable ‘added value’. Sporting performance is impressive, and the School enjoys a strong reputation for the arts and design and technology. Boarding, teaching and recreational facilities are excellent and every pupil enjoys a breadth of opportunity. Such things are excellent, but we strive for more. We believe that education should impart a real sense of meaning and purpose, develop open and enquiring minds, and allow pupils to fulfill their talents wherever they lie. We value creativity, encourage variety and recognise individuality. We seek to nurture integrity, responsibility, compassion and self-discipline within the context of the demands set by the lively School community. We aim to provide a loving and supportive community where happy children can explore a range of opportunities, develop their unique talents, grow in confidence and emerge as well-balanced 18-year-olds.
What’s special about Bryanston?
The School’s method of work provides the flexibility to combine a wide array of subjects and to tailor the timetable to the specific needs of the individual.
Each pupil has a personal tutor with whom he or she meets each week to discuss progress. Sixth-formers also have individual work review sessions with their subject teachers.
Frequent one-to-one meetings, both academic and pastoral, create a particularly reassuring and productive relationship between staff and pupils. Pupils are also encouraged to help each other, and the School’s friendly atmosphere touches the whole Bryanston family.
Bryanston House provides the School with its centre and the estate a wealth of facilities which together constitute an immensely stimulating yet safe environment for children to grow up in – a literal and metaphorical walled garden.
Admission and scholarships
Pupils usually enter at 13+ or into the Sixth Form. Junior scholarships are offered for academic excellence, music, art, ICT, sport and all-round ability. Sixth-form scholarships are offered for academic excellence, music and sport. Full details are available from the Admissions Registrar.
The excellent education together with personal
guidance have given him a splendid basis for the
rest of his life.
