Bethany enjoys a reputation as a particularly friendly and happy community. The School has a country campus set in ‘The Garden of England’ but it is only 50 minutes by train from central London, one hour by taxi from Heathrow Airport and 45 minutes from the Eurostar Terminal.
Boarding
Each boarding House is family-run and is home to around 25 boarders. Students are encouraged to develop good work habits and to have consideration for others. Boarders enjoy a varied weekend programme of activities and outings. In their last year, students move into The Orchard, opened in 1999, where they have individual en-suite study-bedrooms. The environment and atmosphere within this House ensure a smooth transition from school to university.
The curriculum and information technology
Bethany offers a broad range of subjects, which are taught in modern classrooms with specialist facilities. All teaching areas are served by a broadband wireless network, which allows fast Internet and intranet access. Most pupils have their own laptop and all have a personal e-mail address. Teachers make innovative use of information technology in their lessons, and, with small classes rarely exceeding 16, pupils receive plenty of guidance.
Subjects available to GCSE: English language and literature, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, information technology, art, design and technology, French, Spanish, drama, geography, business studies, history, physical education, religious studies and music. Subjects available at AS/A-level: all of the above plus ethics and philosophy. Business studies is also available at VCE. 95% of leavers go to university.
Other activities
At Bethany we believe that activities outside the classroom are very important in developing students’ personalities. Everyone takes part in sport at least three times a week. Our newly expanded sports centre offers a sports hall, squash courts, fitness room and a climbing wall. Outside there are extensive playing fields, hard courts and a swimming pool. All pupils up to sixth form take part in clubs which range from archery to self-defence. Students from Year 10 can join the Duke of Edinburghs Award Scheme and sixth-formers can take part in Young Enterprise Companies, Theatre Club and Cultural Society. Throughout the School there are opportunities to perform in dance, drama and music.
A flourishing, forward-looking community where the individual is encouraged to fully develop their talent and personality.
