Boston is one of the USA’s oldest and most traditional cities. It’s the birthplace of the American Revolution. Internationally known as a major centre of academic excellence in the English-speaking-world, Boston is alive with students. 250 000 students live, study and have fun in Boston. The atmosphere is youthful, lively and exciting. The cultural life is unparalleled anywhere in America, and its hundreds of pubs, clubs and restaurants are crowded with students from every corner of the world.

 

Climate in Boston :

There is one good thing about Boston’s weather : if you don’t like it, just wait a few minutes and it will change. Average temperatures : from 0° to 95°F = from -17 to 35°C

Daily life:

The general business day schedule is 9:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m Monday through Friday. Businesses do not close for lunch. A lot of them are also open on Saturdays and sometimes on Sundays.
Clubs, bars and pubs are usually open until 2:00 a.m.
Legal drinking age is 21. For proof of age, don’t forget to bring your I.D card.International I.D cards can be obtained at STA ( Student Travel Association ) at 297 Newbury Street. Complete listing of daily, weekly, and monthly events can be found in newspapers such as : the Boston Globe or the Boston Phoenix.

 

Geographic location and outdoor activities :

The city of Boston is ideally located on the ocean, close to the rugged mountains, and surrounded by charming New England villages. It’s an easy drive to beautiful beaches such as Revere Beach one the Blue line, about ten minutes from downtown Boston, or to the White and Green Mountains around. Each of the different landscapes has something to offer for the four seasons.

The mountains allow for skiing trips in the winter and great hikes all year round, Blue Hills are the closest example ; this skiing resort provides a 95 meters vertical drop, night skiing, snow boarding, and outside the winter great hikes, picnics and week end outings.
